Hi Triangles
I'm not sure when you will get to this work (Tuesday or Wednesday?) but I want it up ready for you just in case.
To be at the national standards for mathematics in fractions work you need to have a really good understanding of equivalent fractions and how to quickly identify them. Why? Because they help you then convert fractions to decimals and percentages really quickly which is important.
In this work I want you to consolidate your knowledge of equivalent fractions. Once you have this perfect we can move you on to harder stage 8 work.
Good luck!
Once done work on these- to do question 13 you need to pay attention to the information in the pink bubble.
Done??
Then see Whaea Jenny for a Figure it Out book and the follow up work in that.
Great stuff!

Pentagons Tuesday 20th of August
Hi guys
We haven't done blog work for a while as we have been doing lots of whole class stuff for science fair. Today we start on fractions work (yay!). The key to success here is to remember the simple rules you have been taught about fractions and then use your multiplication/ division knowledge to help you along the way.
Today we learnt that to add/ subtract fractions we can only do so if they share a common denominator. So if adding/ subtracting fractions we must first find equivalents so the denominator is equal.
Try your hand at this work today- please follow in order as there should be enough to last you until tomorrow.

Finally speedsters go on to this work from the National Curriculum Maths book:
Whew! A LOT of work here- be very proud of yourself that you got through it all. Hand your book in for marking now (put it open on my desk) and I will check your progress. This work is stage 8 work so well done you!

Triangles Follow-up Work: Tuesday 9th July
Hi Team
Yesterday we went over some of the fundamental rules of geometry:
-angles on a straight line add up to 180 degrees
-angles around a point add up to 360 degrees
-vertically opposite angles are equal
Use this knowledge to solve these questions.

Cirlces Work: Monday 8th July
Last week we learnt about translations and how to use coordinates to plot translations. So you remember how to plot them in a pair of brackets?? (left/right, up/down)
Complete this work below using your knowledge of translations.
Now I want you to work on these simple translations. Use coordinates to describe the movement of the shaded in shape to the empty shape position.

Triangles Follow Up Work: Fast Finisher Wednesday
There was a lot of work on the blog yesterday and I did not expect that you completed it all. If you have managed to finish it WELL DONE! You must have worked really hard!!
If you are done then please work on this fun activity:
Have FUN!!

Triangles Follow Up work- Tuesday 2 July
Hi Team
We have just worked together on enlargements. Complete this work below. There is quite a lot of work here. You will have half a session today and a half a session tomorrow to complete this work. Any not done by tomorrow 2nd half of maths will become homework.

Pentagons Work: Tuesday 2 July- Loci and Locus
I've marked all of your books overnight and am really happy with how hard you are all working. Please make sure that you label all of your triangle sides next time.
Today I want you to work on this learning from yesterday about finding loci and locus.

Circles: Friday 28th June
You have just had some teaching with me about symmetry and reflection.
Complete task card 1 and 2 into your maths book by first copying the image and then answering the question.
For good extension see if you can read this and make sense of it- you should be able to it is fairly easy stuff. If you can then answer the questions below.

Yesterday we learnt about translations and how to state what translation has been made. We can use these understandings to make translations also.
Work in your maths book to complete these translations:
Once you are done then do this extension reading and see if you can understand translation vectors. If you can then answer the questions to 28 and 29 in your maths book. Good luck- this is level 5 maths!

Pentagons Finishers Work: Friday 28th of June
Once you are finished with the work from yesterday I want you to extend and apply your learning.
Using your knowledge of how to construct triangles can you make a geometrically perfect net for a triangular prism? Use scrap paper to create your net.
What about an equilateral pyramid?
Create and decorate but you MUST make this manageable. This is work that you will not necessarily carry over to next week.

Hey!
What is a net? Why would we need to know how to draw nets? These are questions that we discussed and answered in our lesson yesterday. Today I want you to work on finishing the net learning before we move on to some more tricky work later in the session. Below is the sheet that some of you may have got to- can I please get you all working on this one now. Use scrap paper to follow the instructions to create a net.

Triangles Work: Geometry Wednesday 26th of June
Today we are learning to rotate objects. Firstly we learnt about rotating shapes and then finding the point of rotation. To do this we had to identify where a shape can rotate from (the rotation point) and then rotate according to the instructions.
If you do not get these completed today please work on them tonight for homework so I can check you understand this before moving on.
xx Whaea

Circles Work: Week 6
I know that some of you started this sheet and you were practicing using partitioning to solve. Please work on this today to get you started. I will meet with you and go over a new strategy. Check back in your maths books how to solve these types of questions.
Start from where you finished last time.

Triangles Follow-up Work: Week 5 DO THIS FIRST
National Standards Check-in
These questions have been designed to check that you are on track to achieving the National Standard in mathematics.
Question One:
It is 110km from Auckland to Tauranga.
It is 90km from Greymouth to Westport.
How far have the Smith family travelled so far?
How far have the Hohepa family travelled?
Who has travelled the furtherest distance?
Question Two:
Tama has 4.95 litres of petrol in one can and 7.5 litres in the other. How much fuel does he have altogether?
He pours 3.2 liters out of the 4.95 litre can. How much is now left in that can?

Circles Fast Finishers Work Wednesday 29th of May
If you have finished the check-in assessment sheet that I want you to do then please work on the following questions. I want you firstly to practice using standard written form- if you get stuck you may work with a partner but you made such GOOD progress yesterday I am pretty confident in all of you.
1) 25x42
2) 41x32
3) 92x11
4) 63x73
5) 49x28
Once you have done these check you answers on a calculator. Did you get them all correct? If not work backwards and see where you went wrong, was it your basic fact knowledge or a strategy error? Just to make sure that you have go the strategy sorted do one more...
6) 77x34
Got it now? Great!!
Next we need to do some more practice of tidy numbers strategy. Remember that this strategy is about changing one number so that it is easier to work with. See your books for some more help (we did this a few weeks ago now!)
7) 39x33
8) 54x18
9) 33x57
10) 41x62
How did you go? Check with a partner and see did you make the same numbers tidy? Did you remember to add on or take off? Check you answers with a calculator and see how you went.
Are you done? You are AMAZING! Work on maths quest my awesome circles group.
xx

Triangles Tuesday 28th May Multiplying decimals
Hey Team
You are doing so well with your maths at the moment- you should be proud of your efforts. This work is a follow up from yesterday's work where we learnt to multiply decimals by ignoring the decimal point and then putting it back. Complete these easy questions and if you get them done then move on to the fast finishers work.
